The Queen Of The Point Malibu 2024 (QOTPBU24) event, held from June 28-30 at the legendary First Point Malibu, was nothing short of spectacular. The event was a beautiful blend of fierce competition, community bonding, and sheer joy, all set against the backdrop of Malibu’s iconic waves.
One of the standout moments was the 10 & Under division, always a crowd favorite, capturing hearts with the young surfers’ enthusiasm and burgeoning talent. Another highlight was the surf session with the El Barrio Athletic Club, where many participants volunteered to take the girls surfing, creating a magical experience that blended mentorship and fun.
Despite the small waves, the talent on display was immense. Around 120 surfers participated, traveling from places like Mexico, Nova Scotia, Hawaii, and all over California. Among the stars were Kirra Seale, a new mom to twins, and Malia Ilagan, who wowed everyone with a near-perfect score of 9.83 and clinched the 2024 Season title. Jen Smith made a stunning comeback, winning the event for the second time after taking a break in 2023.
The event kicked off with an energetic opening ceremony at Traveler Surf Club, setting the stage for a weekend of surf and celebration. The closing ceremony at Aviator Nation was the perfect ending, honoring the winners and all participants in a lively, celebratory atmosphere.
QOTPBU24 was made possible by the support of amazing sponsors, including our presenting sponsors Mad Hippie and Vibes Fruit Snacks, as well as Ola Chica, De Céa, OCN Culture, Mamala Surf, Betty Belts, Vapur, Nature Of Surf Women, Maple Holistics, Sister Betsey Surf Wax, Keep-A-Breast, Carve Designs, and Ubatuba Acai. The beach buzzed with activity all weekend, with sponsor booths attracting beachgoers, spectators, and surfers. Thanks to a dedicated team, the event was live-streamed, allowing surfers to be seen by a global audience, including their loved ones.
A special shoutout goes to Withitgirl for their comprehensive coverage and unwavering support throughout the event. Their contributions helped amplify the voices and achievements of our surfers, making the event even more impactful.
Feedback from participants and spectators was overwhelmingly positive, with many calling QOTPBU24 their favorite event of the year. The next event is already on the horizon, set for October 26-27, 2024, at Surfers Point in Ventura. This venue, with its bustling boardwalk, promises fantastic visibility and engagement opportunities for everyone involved.
